In a new update published to the official Marvel Rivals website, NetEase laid out details for the Marvel themed hero shooter’s upcoming closed alpha test, which kicks off this week on May 10.
The closed alpha test, which runs between May 10 and May 20, will include five modes: Tutorial, Quick Match, Pocket Universe, Custom, and Competitive. Most of these are fairly self-explanatory, but the curiously named Pocket Universe description reads “respawn at a flexible location and eliminate as many enemies as you can,” which sounds a bit like a team deathmatch game mode.
NetEase will also host Dawn of Legends, a Twitch live streamed 6v6 tournament with a prize pool of $22,500 during the alpha test period. Players can register between May 10 and May 13, with open qualifiers to run between May 14 and 16. The tournament will culminate in a Knockout Stage that begins on May 17 and wraps up on May 19.
Lastly, those who are invited to the test will be able to unlock the ability to invite their friends into the alpha by achieving certain milestones in-game. NetEase also plans to allow players to earn additional invite codes by tuning into Marvel Rivals livestreams.
Marvel Rivals aims to be the next great hero shooter, but does it have the chance to succeed in a post-Overwatch world, or is it too late?
