According to Marvel Rivals’ game director Guangyun Chen, NetEase Games isn’t concerned that the upcoming Marvel free to play hero shooter will run into the same issues Concord ran into this past summer. With few exceptions, it hasn’t been a great environment to launch multiplayer shooters lately.

Speaking to TheGamer at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, Chen said the team is confident in their game and added, “The ideology behind our design is to make it fun for people, for the players.” Chen feels the Marvel brand also does some lifting for the game by allowing for unique gameplay options and helping the game stand out in a sea of free to play shooters.

NetEase recently unveiled Psylocke as a new duelist character that will join the roster at launch. This iteration of Psylocke is inspired by Peach Momoko’s Demon Days X-Men comic book series and her design for the game was developed in collaboration with Momoko.

In our latest hands on preview of the game, we came away impressed with Rivals’ version of Captain America, so much so that we wondered if he might be nerfed before the game launches in December.

Marvel Rivals arrives on the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on December 6.
