The RuneScape team delivered on its promised first big reveal for the upcoming Necromancy skill. Not only will Necromancy be a new combat skill, it will be an all-new combat style.
Necromancy will be a non-elite combat skill that will go to level 120 for members and level 20 for free to play players.
Jagex revealed earlier this month that Necromancy will also be accompanied by its own full season when it arrives. Revealing that it is also the first new combat style ever added, and the fourth overall, continues to emphasize just how big this all is.
Necromancy will have its own weapons, incantations, and abilities. As the fourth combat style, according to Mod Ryan, “it sits outside the combat triangle. This means it’s neither weak nor strong against magic, ranged, or melee”. Standard weapons include the Death Guard for ranged damage, and the offhand Spirit Lantern for summoning creatures from the Underworld. anything you summon won't last forever, but if you can keep them going for as long as possible, their damage will increase. Necromancy will also use incantations and there will be four new ruins added to help you use your skills.
With the addition of a brand new combat style, in addition to all the tutorials that they are planning, and the fact that everyone learning Necromancy will be learning together, the upgrade system will let you get up to 90 by doing Necromancy narrative story content. You don't even have to participate in combat to level and master Necromancy. You can use rituals to level, via Skilling, all the way to 120. For those more advanced players who want a deeper challenge, that will be a rewarding option.
You’ll also spend time repopulating an initially empty city of Um. You’ll free spirits over time and this will build up to help you fight the first necromancer. The first necromancer will be the central antagonist for the new skill. They revealed that this necromancer is an ancient that has kept resurfacing over and over throughout history. Only this time, you're special so this first necromancer is interested in you, and has taken over Gielinor’s Underground. You have to prepare to work with characters old and new to master Necromancy and learn enough to defeat the first necromancer.
The new Talent system will help you to unlock skills in a way that suits your style, but you will unlock everything eventually as you master the skill. Your existing items Still be useful so count on using your amulets, potions, or rings.
Necromancy will debut later in the year, but the team will continue adding to it over time. Tomorrow, there will be a developer Q&A on all things revealed on Necromancy.
