The Diablo 3 site has been updated with an overview and a short Q&A about the just-announced Necromancer class. In it, readers get a look at iconic skills reminiscent of the original Diablo 2 class.
Necromancers will be made available in 2017 as part of something called the Rise of the Necromancer pack that will require the base game and the Reaper of Souls expansion to use. As part of the pack, players will also get an in-game pet, two more character slots, two more stash tabs, a portrait frame, pennant, banner and sigil.
Necros will also be available in both male and female versions and will be made distinct from D3's other "pet class", the Witch Doctor:
Necromancers can expect darker, more controlled gameplay centered around the raw materials of life: blood and bone. Grounded in a philosophical, pragmatic approach to life and death, they’re more like a calculated conductor of the darkest arts. Deadly serious in their practice, they are the experts of curses and reanimation—and their pets obey their every command.
Necromancers have been "reimagined" from the D2 Necro but will bring back some skills as well: Corpse Explosion, Bone Spear, Siphon Blood, Blood Rush and Summon Skeletons.
