NCSOFT has a new video called “MMORPG Spirit”, showcasing more than 25 years of flagship MMORPG games. The video also includes some footage from Throne and Liberty, on the day its Korean closed beta goes live.
AION came out originally between 2009 and 2009 and, not only has it offered fantasy PvPvE content, and lots to explore, the game is still memorable for its aerial combat. More recent years, there have been remastered versions, including the more recent AION Classic, which just had its latest European release last month.
Lineage made its mark back in the classic MMORPG days, launching way back in 1998. Based on a Korean comic book series, the medieval fantasy game began the franchise that still thrives in various formats today, from remastered Lineage in Korea to various mobile titles, like Lineage and Lineage 2M, and of course, Lineage II.
Blade & Soul continues to offer big challenges, big story, and lots of new dungeons, exploration, new classes, weapons, and events.
Lineage II also gets a spot in the new video, since its legacy has continued since its own release back in 2003 in Korea and early 2004 in North America. As a prequel to the original Lineage, it brought players back to somewhere familiar, but not, and continued NCSoft’s MMORPG success in massive ways.
It makes sense then, that Throne and Liberty, which NCSoft is calling their fifth flagship title, began its development life as a planned Lineage II sequel. Development stalled on what was then known as Project TL back in 2011 when it was announced, and something else began taking shape. Still codenamed Project TL when NCSoft released a video peek at several upcoming projects, the game was formally announced. In the West, Amazon Games will publish Throne and Liberty.
Not only does Throne and Liberty get some footage at the end of the new showcase video, featuring the large scale battles to come, the impacts you can have on the environments, and the 'big' nature of it, the Korean closed beta has also begun. Running through May 30th, the beta test for South Korean players is happening as “we thought that the game needed to be seen in a new light”, according to translation of the narration on their Korean closed beta announcement.
NCSOFT will also release a digital artbook in mid-June looking back over Lineage and Lineage II, Blade & Soul, and AION, with concept art, character design works, and much more from all of those titles.
