NCSoft Adds New Security Measures to Throne and Liberty Korean Servers, Also Locking Out Most Foreign Players

Throne and Liberty has been out in Korea for a month now, and it looks like anyone trying to get in with a foreign account will have a tough time thanks to new changes.

According to the new changes (as reported by fansite Throneandliberty.online), NCSoft has implemented new security changes in the name of protecting the overall security of the game after people tried to steal accounts. The new security measures require those who can connect to the game to verify their accounts, in addition to their devices, with the phone number. you'll have to register your device and then verify it when you connect.

If you want to play on the Korean servers, you will have to have access to a Korean phone number to create an account. After you verify the phone number, you can change it to anything else, so some people were borrowing phone numbers from those who were willing to share (out of kindness or for profit) and then changing it. Now, however, you’ll need to be able to verify your account consistently to connect, and unless you regularly have access to a Korean phone number, you may just be out of luck until the eventual global release is out.

If you do have access to a Korean phone number and the ability to verify your phone and device, then you should be able to connect under the new measures. For the most part, though, in addition to thwarting account thieves, this will result in many, and probably most, foreign players having to wait patiently for the release in their region.
