Naughty Dog has unveiled its latest original game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, with a gorgeous cinematic trailer that lays out its bounty hunter protagonist and sci-fi space world.

Showing off as the final game trailer of The Game Awards 2024, this new game has been in production since 2020, and the teaser trailer is entirely rendered in-engine.

The Naughty Dog trailer description reads:

Set thousands of years in the future, Intergalactic puts players into the role of  Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit.

The trailer features Jordan in her spaceship abode, who seems looking for “Five Aces,” an elite combat group. In a call from a middlewoman, she's given a lead for a bounty search in a dangerous mid-planet depth. We’re just left with the protagonist whipping out a neat laser sword to take on a multi-armed robot.

We’re not exactly sure of the connection between the “Heretic Prophet” bit of the title and the rest of the game, but as it seems heavy on the lore already, we’ll likely find out in time.

It was also shared that the original soundtrack is scored by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross—yes, the guys from Nine Inch Nails. Notably, Reznor and Ross won the Primetime Emmy Award for their work on the 2019 Watchmen series and are in a virtual music group called WitchGang with Hudson Mohawke and Dave Sitek.

The last bit we know is that it’s a Sony game, as if the Sony product placement wasn’t enough to indicate such, so it’ll likely be, to some degree, a Playstation 5 exclusive (if not released on PC as well).
