With Dawntrail’s recent early access launch, Final Fantasy XIV has been dealing with some of the usual issues surrounding a brand new expansion. On Xbox, where the MMORPG recently debuted, there are some big issues, and Naoki Yoshida has updated on the issues and the work the team is doing.
Some Xbox players have reported some freezes and crash issues, in addition to some other issues with things not working as intended, including boss fights. The issues are extensive enough that the team has classified them “high priority”, and continue to work on hotfixes when possible, and bigger patches as necessary to stabilize things.
Yoshida’s update defines the primary issue causing the game client to become unresponsive, particularly when going between locations, as “memory fragmentation”. This is one of those performance issues that will require a patch to update the client itself. This means that it will take time to be thoroughly checked by QA, and go through other procedures to be sure it’s ready and smoothes out the issue. Current estimate is several days, and Yoshida apologizes for the issues and the length of the process to fix them.
However, if you’re able to play on a less populated world, this could offer a way to enjoy the content without the massive populations that make the memory fragmentation freeze issue more likely to occur. Of course, this won’t be a solution that works for everyone, but it is an option.
The team has already fixed issues involving freezing with boss fights in the Syrcus Tower alliance raid, and will follow up with a patch to keep that stable. A separate issue Yoshida addresses is a graphical issue with certain races using emotes and the Seraphism action for scholars. This one just wasn’t caught in time before Dawntrail made it into early access players’ hands.
