Another live service game bites the dust, this time the WB-affiliated beat-em-up platform fighter game Multiversus. Per an official post on the Multiversus site and socials, Season 5 will be the final season of the game, immediately after which the game will be taken offline and unavailable to claim.

Season 5 will progress as usual, and players will be able to unlock and use Aquaman from the DC comics and Lola Bunny from the Looney Tunes squad in their online matches. Meanwhile, though, real-money transactions have been disabled, meaning in-game content can’t be purchased except with already-purchased premium content.

Those who own the game will still be able to download Multiversus in its base stateplay offline after the season ends either against bots or other players in-person. Plus, per the FAQ, all characters will be unlocked and playable in this offline mode.

While in-game purchases have already been locked up, items and content already purchased will be available in the offline mode. However, players will need to own and download the game on any of its available platforms before the end of the season in order to have those purchased items available.

Featuring characters from WB, Cartoon Network and DC properties, Multiversus was renowned for shockingly well-balanced gameplay for its genre at launch, as well as the use of rollback netcode, considered the gold standard of fighting game network engineering. It won Best Fighting Game at The Game Awards in 2022, and was nominated this past year in 2024 as well.

The FAQ, meanwhile, states that development studio Player First Games has no other news to report at the time about its future. It was only recently acquired by WB back in July.
