MultiVersus is officially coming back on May 28th. And it’s now in Unreal Engine 5. These and other details, including a PvE mode, were revealed in a new dev video on “The Road to Launch”. The days are coming once more to pit Batman against Shaggy for bragging rights and glory.

After teasing some life in the crossover platform fighting game on social media last week, today, the Player First Games team released the new developer video to announce the game’s return, and the process of getting there. Game director Tony Huynh talked us through just what they’ve been working on after feedback and data from the open beta before it was shut down for improvement.

“A core aspect of Multiversus is our wealth of iconic characters in the game, with fun-filled competitions set against the backdrop of reimagined universes and environments,” he says. And this means more characters and more environments are on the way. Warner Bros. has been looking for growth and to double down to leverage its extensive catalog of owned and controlled IP, so it looks like this will naturally continue in MultiVersus as well.

The game has been moved over to Unreal Engine 5, with its improved visuals and lighting. The team has also rebuilt the game from the ground up during the time away. They’ve also worked on improving performance and to deliver a consistent performance across platforms. Finally, these changes also mean new attacks and combat attacks to go along with those characters and environments.

And there’s PvE on the way. Huynh says that there will be new mechanics, and “introduce additional ways of playing with unique rewards”.

With a new engine, new characters, and of course, that PvE mode, we can look forward to more from the team as we head towards a full MultiVersus launch.
