Player First Games, the creators of the free-to-play multiplayer 2D fighter MultiVersus, has officially been acquired by Warner Brothers Games.
According to BusinessWire, Player First Games will still be involved with the title but will now need to report to Carlos Barbosa, who is the Vice president and Studio Head of Warner Bros. Games. Warner Bros. was already the publisher of MultiVersus, so this acquisition allows the development team to work more closely with the publishers to push out bigger and better content. In regards to the new leadership, co-founder Tony Huynh states:
“Our team is excited to join the Warner Bros. Games family, and we feel that this will be great for MultiVersus overall. We are working to make the MultiVersus game experience the best it can be and having our development team integrated with the publisher is optimum for the players.”
MultiVersus sports a roster of some of the most iconic characters in film and television history. With characters such as Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, Agent Smith from the Matrix franchise, and even Jason Voorhees for horror movie fans, there is truly a fan favorite for everyone. Though the title was initially released in 2022, the developers decided to take it off the market to remake it from scratch in Unreal Engine 5, which paid off in terms of 100k concurrent players upon launch.
