Everywhere, the open MMO from indie studio Build a Rocket Boy, is heading towards its first closed alpha test. The announcement came along with the game’s first trailer, showing off some of the community-built world, the premise, and some of what to expect.
The multiplayer experience has been in quiet development for a while, and earlier, when it was first announced, attracted concerns over blockchain content or NFTs. That was more than a year ago. The team responded at the time as to their (non-blockchain) direction, but with the release of today's trailer, we get more of an idea of what that direction and premise look like. At least one iteration of it.
This is because Everywhere is intended to be something the community impacts together in a sandbox-y way. The trailer itself walks us through some of what building and shaping the world might look like, and how everyone can take part. The team’s proprietary system is called Arcadia, and it is the building and design tool at use. Since building and designing things is important within the scope of Everywhere, the tool is said to be an easy to use design tool that will let you design all kinds of features, mini games, activities, events, and even impact the world.
That said, the team is emphasizing that gameplay is at the core of Everywhere, and there are also competitive game modes. In the trailer, we see examples of mini games like a Skee-Ball machine and other ways people can discover and explore their world and continue to shape it.
While we only have just over a minute’s worth of glimpses as to what is possible, this is just the beginning and the new trailer and announcements serve to also invite players to apply for the closed Alpha test starting soon.
The first closed alpha will be a limited PC technical test and to get some early feedback and test the system. This is just the beginning so you can find out more over at Everywhere including how to sign up for testing.
