Most Popular PC Fallout 4 Mods Are Now Ways to Undo the Next Gen Update

With Fallout 4’s recently-released next-gen update falling flat with many users, the most popular mods for the game have now become ones that reverse the update.

When the Fallout TV series was released on Amazon Prime, the games have seen a significant resurgence, from both new and old players flocking into the Wasteland. Nexus Mods saw so much traffic, its servers buckled under the demand for a bit  before the team was able to restore it. The Fallout 4 update was dated for an April 25th release, which actually pushed back the planned release of the Fallout: London mod project, with the team lead feeling ‘screwed over’ by Bethesda’s timing.

All that said, if the Fallout 4 next gen update had delivered an impressive experience, that might have made things quiet down overall and let everyone enjoy the game with the changes. Only, it most certainly did not deliver an impressive experience, which explains all the moves to undo the changes.

PC Gamer reports that the Fallout 4 Downgrader and Steam: Skip next gen mods have amassed around 35,000 downloads. The downgrader mod is designed to effectively revert your game to before the update, allowing you to continue as usual. The Steam mod will trick Steam into thinking you downloaded the update if you have not.

It’s clear that both of these quickly sailing up the popularity charts reflects dissatisfaction with the update, which Bethesda hasn’t addressed yet. With Fallout’s recent phase of discovery and rediscovery thanks to the TV adaptation, this is one perceived misstep that the community is not just criticizing for its issues, but also stepping up to help the experience (as is a common thread with Bethesda titles). If you do want to stick with the next gen update, there are also mods available to tweak the experience, including to improve and correct the ultrawide experience support.
