Mortal Online 2’s latest development update offers details about the next patch and PTR date. The update will include the next engine upgrade, pet overhauls, a flag to mark new accounts, new stability features, and a new game system Star Vault is keeping under wraps for now.

The PTR for this next big patch opens up on September 25th. The test build will include most of this update, including the migration over to Unreal Engine version 5.4. It is more of a technical than a visual update at this time, but they're hopeful that the work they put in “could offer us some performance gains in the future”.

The pet gameplay experience is getting some major overhauls, including a new leveling system,  improved rewards,  and a series of changes to pets and Beast Mastery on the whole.  You'll still have a passive XP gain outside of combat, but the active bonus while in combat has been replaced with a new system to create a more active leveling experience. The new leveling system lets your pet earn some experience every time you kill something that also gives you Glory. Pets also level differently, with weaker and more common pets leveling faster.

The Fledgling Flag is a feature that will show that an account is new. The hope is that this will help other players in the form of a visual marker to identify those who are new in town and could benefit from assistance or mentoring (and less bullying). Star Vault is considering additional incentives for existing players to help people with Fledgling Flags out, but they are still working those ideas out.

Other changes include a new system that is designed to prevent characters from exiting the world after a crash happens while inside dungeons. If the dungeon crashes and you're inside, your character will be in the world for a few hours, so there's a chance to avoid losses.

There are other changes, including that new game system they hint “should be a good bit of fun to engage with in town when you aren’t busy going on adventures”.
