On the latest Mortal Online 2 Developer Stream, Henrik Nystrom, CEO and Lead Designer at Star Vault, delved into many of the mechanics of territory control and siege warfare in the game. He showcased different types of siege machinery, detailed territory control mechanics, and introduced a new currency known as Prominence. At the end of the three and a half hour stream, he answered many questions from the community, which included details on Star Vault’s plans for a console release in the future.
Nystrom also introduced the concept of supply lines and supply towers, structures that players can construct and capture to increase the defense value of their territories. What many current players might find most interesting is the inclusion of more ways for kingdom builders to manage their guilds more effectively, such as tracking the amount of prominence they are contributing to the guild.
Henrik also touched on the concept of supply runs, where players need to restock cities with goods, and the ability to hire guards for cities. He ended the discussion with a demonstration of two types of siege machinery: a ballista and a manganon. The ballista is quite a complex machine, that players will need to provide ammunition for, but it can deal tremendous amounts of damage. The manganon on the other hand, acts as a catapult, that can actually throw players, among other things, though the human ammunition most likely would not survive. The team did not initially intend it to throw players, but Henrik showed that the physics system has enabled this to work, despite it being a mostly unplanned occurrence.
Later in the video Henrik held a lengthy Q&A session, where he addressed various community queries. He provided insights into the game's mechanics, explaining the balance between resource management and strategic gameplay. He also discussed the challenges and rewards of maintaining supply lines and managing territories, which included showing off a new map with far more details, noting how players can see their territories, observing kingdoms and cities. The new topographically accurate map will not show player positions, however. He also emphasized the importance of player cooperation and strategy in successfully controlling territories and defending them from enemies.
Henrik also answered questions about the game's future development plans, noting that the team has thought about moving the game to consoles, and Star Vault has talked about that, but it is not something that will be a priority, as they are currently working on territory control first, promising continued improvements and new features to enhance the gaming experience prior to migrating to any additional platforms.
Overall, the stream offered a deep dive into the complex mechanics of territory control in Mortal Online 2, highlighting the strategic depth and player-driven nature of the game. Players will be able to access plenty of these features on the PTR starting next week. We hope to see the community enjoying the new features as much as Henrik himself did during the stream.
