The developers behind Mordhau are under fire for its toxic community as well as its unclear stance regarding a so-called "ethnicity toggle". Triternion has been under the microscope after a recent PC Gamer interview where the issue of adding customization options including non-white skin tones and female playable characters came up. While Triternion has plans to do so, developers have also responded to loud outcry from its playerbase and indicated that it would add a toggle to turn those off.

"The realism complaint is valid," developers wrote on Steam in April as backlash mounted against the inclusion of ethnicity and gender options, "so when we add them, we might add a simple client-side toggle (for both female and male characters) which would let you disable them."

This point was reiterated in the PC Gamer article, "Whatever stance we take officially, some group of people are going to be upset with us. And so, ideally, we'd put the power in the players' hands, and give them the option to enable and disable different things." said Mike Desrosiers and Andrew Geach.

However, after the issue gained traction across game sites, Triternion issued a contradictory statement on Twitter with the promise of an expanded statement at a later point.

How the issue is ultimately resolved remains to be seen. We'll be keeping our eye out for more information.
