Monsters & Memories has graced us with a new update detailing the strides they’ve made in July. With Update 34, we see new visuals, and tons of improvements. Buckle up for a swift summary of what developer Niche Worlds Cult has been working on.

Monsters & Memories has been making some headway on turning their proof of concept game into a strong contender for old school MMORPG players to enjoy. Here’s a summary of what’s new in Update 34:

  1. Performance Enhancements:
  • Entity Loading: Up to 100 entities can now be loaded at a time on the client.
  • NPC AI Fixes: No more forgetful NPCs when casting spells or being hailed.
  • Render Order Fixes: Underwear will now render properly (sorry, superheroes!).
  1. Gameplay Adjustments:
  • Buff and Debuff Changes: Abilities like feign death won't break certain buffs, and adjustments to channeling, parry, dodge, and block formulas.
  • Damage Bonuses: Player and NPC damage bonuses have been fixed.
  • Cooldown Fixes: Edge cases that allowed instant cooldowns for NPCs have been addressed.
  1. Visual and Interface Improvements:
  • Mip Map Streaming: Implemented for equipment textures.
  • Buff Window Customization: Different grid types and anchors are now available.
  • Activatable Items: Can now activate and deactivate parts of their model.
  • Updated Character Art for Halflings, Goblins and Skeletons.
  • Updated Animations for Halflings and Goblins.
  • Revamped Shaded Dunes and Sungreet Strand

  • NPC HP Values: Adjusted to apply HP buffs properly.
  • Threat Adjustments: Changes to song, healing threat, and AoE effect threat.
  • Skill Caps: Dual wield skill caps and formula updates.

  • Dynamic Campfires: Players can now create campfires dynamically.
  • GM Tooling: Enhanced tools for NPC logic, AI, and stats monitoring.
  • Fishing Restored: The ability to fish has been brought back.
  1. Miscellaneous Fixes:
  • Stealth and Invisibility: Adjustments to how clients see stealth.
  • World and Zone Refactoring: Differentiation between "Client" and "Character."
  • Volume Checking: Improved efficiency for handling thousands of players online.
