MindsEye, a standalone action-adventure from Build a Rocket Boy will be published by IO Interactive. The game is a standalone project that was originally announced last year as a proof of concept for in-development sandbox MMO, Everywhere.
Yet, MindsEye is entirely separate. In an interview with IGN, IO Interactive’s Hakan Abrak says that the action adventure game is deep in development. Now that they’ve announced the publishing deal (something IO isn’t known for, but they might consider these opportunities if they are “special”), they're looking forward to talking about a release window, something they have in the planning stages.
The game’s official description gives a sense of what we’re in for:“MindsEye is a story-driven, action-adventure thriller, set in a fictional near future Americana. Featuring best-in-class cinematics, high octane driving, and explosive combat from legendary game director, Leslie Benzies. Play as Jacob Diaz, a former soldier with a mysterious neural implant who is suffering from memory loss and flashbacks.”
There’s nothing about Everywhere just yet, but that makes sense, since IO has nothing to do with that game. Build A Rocket Boy is building that game on its own and not only is is intended to be a full world and an MMO, it’s also intended to be a game creation platform in itself, so MindsEye being a proof of concept makes sense. We’ll have to wait for more on Everywhere, but it looks like MindsEye is in the final stages.
Build a Rocket Boy was one of the many studios that suffered layoffs this year, but with this publishing deal, things seem to be moving ahead with MindsEye.
