World of Warcraft has some cute new pets to add to your collection via a new charity fundraising pack for Ukrainian relief.
A video introduction from World of Warcraft fan Mila Kunis, who was born in Ukraine and lived there before moving to the US, introduces the new duo: a Golden Retriever puppy named Sunny, and a blue baby Murloc named Flurky. Their colors were chosen to match the Ukrainian flag. Flurky also carries a sunflower, the national flower of Ukraine and a widely seen symbol since the current conflict began last year.
The organization that will benefit is called BlueCheck Ukraine, an organization founded by fellow actor Liev Schreiber. BlueCheck Ukraine spreads received donations between a number of vetted organizations on the ground in Ukraine, providing everything from food, clothing, to much needed medical care and equipment. Instead of specific organizations that only do one thing or can't necessarily mobilize directly on the ground inside Ukraine where the needs are, this organization specializes in getting money and resources where they need to be and prioritizing the things that are most needed. In the video, Kunis notes that the need right now is often in medical supplies, including things like generators and equipment.
Mila Kunis has long been known as a fan of World of Warcraft, and a part of the community, and that's a part of the video as well. Another reason why the organization is turning to the World of Warcraft community to raise money is the community. Blizzard has held a number of charity sales of pets and other fun items and clearly they hope that this Ukraine relief pet pack will make an impact of its own.
The pet pack will run you $20, with money going to BlueCheck Ukraine. You can add it to your collection from now through August 29th. Sunny will be available right away in World of Warcraft and Flurky, will be available in Wrath of the Lich King Classic.
