Atlus has dropped a playable demo for Metaphor: ReFantazio, its upcoming role playing game developed by Studio Zero, its first original title since its formation in 2016.
Metaphor: ReFantazio wears its Persona roots with pride, but is markedly different in that it isn’t a game about high schoolers this time around. Instead, the game is set in the United Kingdom of Euchronia, a medieval fantasy setting. The King of Euchronia has been assassinated which sets of a series of events leading to the development of a worldwide tournament designed to crown the King’s successor.
The game’s protagonist is a boy from a tribe known as the Elda, who have been cast out from society due to their usage of what is considered to be forbidden magic. In the game, our hero is on a quest to lift a curse from his childhood friend, who happens to be the crown prince of Euchronia, thought to have been killed over a decade prior.
The Prologue Demo available now features roughly five hours of gameplay and includes the game’s first full chapter, four dungeons, seven out of the game’s 40 Archetypes, and six party members.
All progress from the demo will transfer to the full game when Metaphor: ReFantazio releases for the PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation consoles on October 11.
