The Heroes of the Storm site has been updated with a detailed look at the many changes made to the game's match-making system since Blizzcon 2015 held in early November last year. According to the blog post, match-making updates have been deployed and the team is excited about the results collected so far, though the system is still a work in progress with more alterations coming.

Some of the improvements rolled out to date:

  • Fair matches - each team has a 45%-55% chance to win
  • The likelihood that new players will be matched against veterans has been reduced, at this point about 5 in 10,000 games
  • Team composition rules that, for instance prevent the matching of a team with two or more Warriors against a team with no Warriors. This same rule has also been applied to Support heroes. This is still a work in progress
  • The likelihood that a five-player party is matched against teams of solo players has been reduced to about 29 in 10,000 matches
  • Hero League that reduces the chance that Rank 1 players will be matched against others at or below Rank 4
  • Certain heroes will be limited to one per team including Abathur, Cho'gall, Lt. Morales, Murky, Nova and the Lost Vikings
  • Queue times have increased some, but this is largely due to the implementation of the new rules and systems
