Blizzard made good on its promise to showcase “massive itemization changes” coming to Diablo 4 in its latest Campfire Chat earlier this week. There are huge, sweeping changes in store for the games itemization in Season 4. And don’t worry, there’s new content, too.
One of the biggest changes coming is how players will upgrade loot. Items can now be ‘Tempered’ at the Blacksmith, which involves consuming Manual items that can confer certain affixes. Each item has a maximum number of Temper rerolls so players can using Tempering to attempt to apply the right affix to the item. Manuals are available permanently once acquired.
Masterworking allows players to increase the stats on an item up to 12 times, and this includes affixes added via Tempering. Every time an affix or stat is upgraded four times it gains a significant increase.
There are a ton more granular changes coming to items and their acquisition, but arguably the most significant change is the fact players can now freely trade Legendary and Unique items that haven’t been crafted onto yet.
