TemTem Swarm’s success seems to be, well, swarming up, as the game has announced 100,000 copies sold in the midst of its early access. As the cutesy action roguelike continues that early access development, its 0.6 patch has dropped, bringing substantial new content and quality of life updates.
For one, there’ll be Random Matchmaking, bringing down the barrier to get into games fast. As it was, matchmaking online required a friend code or being friends on Steam. The update allows players to make a public lobby that’ll automatically add others, prioritizing physical server proximity and skill level, measured in completed Arenas.
The other big technical update with TemTem Swarm is button remapping, allowing players to change keybinds on both the keyboard and controller.
In regards to content, TemTem Swarm’s patch 0.6 brings a new map called Omninesia, themed to TemTem’s Myrisles and bringing with it “lush, inviting foliage” and “fiery pools of flowing lava.” There are also two new playable Tems, a DPS-heavy Zephyruff and the Kinu, described as “support with an edge.” Both are fully fledged with their own Skill Trees as always.
This patch also adds “Glitches,” described as “a new set of items made to offer the players crazy choices that will alter the way they’re playing that run.” In short, once they find a Glitch on the map (with its own indicator and all), players can pick it up and choose whether its pros and cons are worth the hassle. Up to five Glitches can be activated at once, but they can’t be removed, only swap out.
There are also two new mini-bosses, nine new spots, six new Gears, and 15 new Techniques to try out. Plus, they’ve created new enemy behaviors to keep players on their toes. The full patch notes post on Crema’s site notes outlines all the changes.
Crema Games’s action game Temtem Swarm has seen some success after the rise and fall of their original monster collector TemTem, which has recently gone into what gamers call “maintenance mode.” Swarm adopted the cute creatures into a new multiplayer action context, which seems to be working out so far as the game continues its trek through an early access phase.
“Your support, feedback, and excitement fuel us, and as we push toward 1.0, we're more committed than ever to making Swarm the best it can be,” the press release for this update and milestone reads.
