Weeks ago, Second Dinner introduced a controversial new Marvel Snap feature called Leagues. Tested in some limited markets, it wasn’t the feature itself that was controversial, it simply grouped 30 players together and allowed them to compete in a short-term leaderboard. The issue was with the fact that Second Dinner was monetizing a competitive experience.
Players had the ability to purchase perks that allowed for doubled point gains for a time or point shields that prevented the loss of points. A competitive system, with rewards, that players could be manipulated in the players favor if they spent money. If it sounds pay to win, well, it was.
Second Dinner got the memo and published an update recently letting players know that players will no longer be able to purchase boosts when Leagues are rolled out. Instead, players can choose to buy into a Premium League (over a Standard League) that offers greater rewards. Leagues will run between 48 and 72 hours and will still pit 30 players against each other. Players earn and lose points based on wins and cubes gained over that period.
Second Dinner is also partnering with IGN Live to announce a new Marvel Snap update during the in-person fan event in just a few short days when the event kicks off on June 7.
