Marvel Rivals exploded onto the scene on December 6th, and since then, 20 million players have jumped into NetEase's hero shooter.
With an impressive launch roster of 33 heroes, decent monetization, and, most importantly, exciting gameplay, it's no secret why Marvel Rivals has attracted so much attention since its launch two weeks ago.
Being free-to-play doesn't hurt, either.
The team celebrated the benchmark this week, thanking players and giving away a free spray to commemorate the milestone.
?? We are thrilled to announce that 20 million players have joined Marvel Rivals! Our gratitude for each of you is immense!??The spray is ready now, and we also included this number in the spray! Thank you for helping us achieve this milestone.??Log in from December 20th,… pic.twitter.com/tr0k6NYZ95

Meanwhile, while Rivals isn't perfect, one major way example of this is its lack of cross-progression. While it has cross play between PC and consoles, all your purchases and progression is platform specific, which is a shame for those who want to bounce between PS5 and PC, for example.
The team at NetEase knows this is a pain point for the community, but also notes that there are pain points on their end to work through before it's up and running. Speaking to Dot Esports, Marvel Rivals creative director Guanggyun Chen chalks it up to "platform-specific rules" preventing it from being implemented right now.
"Cross-progression involves a lot of platform-specific rules, we’re still looking at it and how to solve it. Once the team is ready, once we’ve figured it out, we’ll be sharing to everyone and players will be the first to know."
This isn't necessarily new, either, as getting Microsoft and Sony to play nice with each other is an arduous process. Warframe took years to get its progression linked across platforms, and while Final Fantasy XIV is now finally available on Xbox platforms, it took almost a decade and isn't without its own share of quirkiness thanks to how purchases work on the platform.
Hopefully, Rivals can get this sorted sooner rather than later - I'd love to use my awesome Doctor Strange skins across every platform instead of having to re-earn them, or worse, rebuy them.
