MapleStory has just handed players the keys to the development castle with the soft launch of MapleStory Worlds in North America. If you’ve played MapleStory and enjoyed all of the original game’s charm, such as its 2D pixel world, social elements, and easy to learn gameplay, you might want to jump back in and experience MapleStory Worlds which invites players to craft their own experiences or join in on other adventures that players have shared
In the same way that players can create player-driven content in games like Minecraft, this new entry into the MapleStory universe will open up a sandbox of creativity through the use of a Maker platform which leverages over 30,000 assets from the game which will all be at your disposal.
As part of its early access phase, MapleStory Worlds is giving fans the opportunity to jump in and experiment early, but it doesn’t look like the platform will be overly simplistic for the layman. Nexon has given players access to tools to create their own games, experiences, and entire worlds, while sharing them within the community, but that also comes with extensive knowledge that includes scripting and advanced editing.
Nexon’s focus is clearly about offering players a new dimension of creativity, but not an accessible creative tool that just anyone can pick up and play. To that end they are inviting people to join their Creators Program which will also help players on their first steps in creating new worlds for players looking to try out some unique fan-made content.
Despite having a handy guide to get you going, Nexon knows that creating content is no easy task and has set up a forum for the vibrant community to ask questions. Of course, building content can also take a lot of time, and time is money. That’s why Creators can also get paid for the content they create by selling items for World Coins. Creator’s will only be able to cashout what they earn from their creations once it reaches the 100 dollar minimum milestone.
This soft launch is the first real chance for fans to shape the future of MapleStory Worlds, and Nexon is inviting everyone to help drive this vision forward. If you’re interested, or just want more information, you can head to the official MapleStory Worlds website or check it out on Steam.
