Manor Lords launched into Early Access last April, and the strategy game has sold more than 2.5 million copies. An update will finally expand the terrain with new maps.
Details were revealed in a recent interview a co-founder of game’s publisher, Hooded Horse, Snow Rui, did with the BBC. “It would almost be arrogant not to be taken aback by how successful it turned out to be,” she says, after the game launched and found success after early buzz, three-million Steam wishlists, and the mechanics that allow you not only to build your own medieval settlement, but to walk around in it and to inhabit the settlements. It goes beyond just building, expanding, and micromanaging.
Rui says that, “There will be people pushing you to have a different expectation or treating the next year as a failure if the breakout hit doesn't repeat itself but that's simply not the case. So that's a matter of setting your expectations and centering who you are.”
Hooded Horse specializes in publishing these strategic releases, and has shown them to be pretty successful, according to PC Gamer. Against the Storm sold more than a million copies and Workers & Resources moved about 600k.

Strategy Session: Manor Lords Early Access Review
In our review, Mitch found that Manor Lords’ Early Access release was good, but there was some repetitiveness since it launched with just a single map. A new update is incoming, which adds two new maps--High Peaks and Winding River--each bringing additional terrain, and features like being able to build bridges and even connect settlements over water. Expect some improvements, balance changes, and more. Preview the update, which is in beta, in the patch notes.
