Manor Lords will launch into Early Access on Steam today, and some fans are wondering why they can’t see the price tag as of yet. The devs at Slavic Magic and Hooded Horse are here to explain why they would rather keep it a secret until launch.
Manor Lords has gained serious traction, as it is the most wish-listed game via Steam right now, where over three million players have added it to their queue for possible play. Of course, everyone wants to know if it will cost a pretty penny or be relatively affordable, but there is no price to check currently.
The developers took to Reddit to discuss this choice of secrecy, stating,
“I also want to draw attention to another issue, and an important additional reason why we aren’t sharing the price publicly now – the rise of gray market/scam stores attempting to sell “pre-orders” on Manor Lords keys. They don’t have any keys, and they aren’t going to be getting any from us. But they are attempting to capitalize on the hype, and, despite our stance that we are NOT doing pre-orders because we don’t want to take your money until after release, they are claiming to take pre-orders for key sales.”
They also say that there could be some confusion on the price of the game with the conversion rates in different countries, making them want to keep the price under wraps until the launch. The developers simply don”t want any confusion or panic over the price before it goes live, so they’d rather just keep it a secret for now. I
Now, with that said, some do fear that since Hooded Horse is a large publisher, the cost might be a bit out of the water. The team also mentions in the post that the publisher has never done AAA pricing on a game and currently has “no plan to do so.” There will of course be a discount on Manor Lords when it does launch, and fans are chomping at the bit to get their hands on this medieval survival game.
