When Tuesday's update hits EVE Online, players will find a number of big changes coming to the PLEX system in order to, as the developers wrote, make it more flexible. The team felt that PLEX has become "cumbersome" to buy and trade due to being associated with a 30-day game subscription amount. The first change is to alter the value of one PLEX into 500 PLEX. The goal is to make selling smaller PLEX packages and trading amounts more streamlined.
Other changes with specific regard to PLEX include:
- The PLEX Vault - a new interface to make understanding what PLEX is and what it can do easier. It's a shared interface across an entire account. "The PLEX Vault will allow you to move PLEX safely throughout the universe rather than having to move it in a ship. It will still be possible to carry it in a ship like any other item if you want, so if you have an urge to fill a shuttle full of PLEX and tour low sec just drag PLEX out of the vault and into your cargo and you’re good to go."
- the New Eden Store items will be shown in PLEX prices
- Aurum will gradually be phased out. Aurum balances above 1000 will be converted to PLEX
-
PLEX Market -
- As we announce these changes, we expect the in-game market to respond and that there may be some volatility which could take many forms. Based on what we know about the relative sizes of Aurum and PLEX stockpiles, we believe the market should take care of finding a new balance without major impact on the price and value of PLEX
- Anyone looking to liquidate Aurum for ISK has had ample opportunity to do so, especially since the release of skill extractors
- Converting only Aurum balances that exceed 1000 Aurum will lower the total amount converted and decrease the risk of a rapid inflow of PLEX destabilizing the market.
- We will run specials in the New Eden Store leading up to the change so that there’s good reason to use up excess Aurum
