Mad World: Age of Darkness, a game known for its hand drawn aesthetic and grotesque monsters, is set to undergo a significant balance patch. This update aims to address several issues that have been affecting the player experience, especially where leveling speed and rewards are concerned.
It has been just over 6 months since Mad World: Age of Darkness released, and the team at Jandisoft has decided to make some substantial changes to the games in their next big update on October 12th. The first major change is the removal of the level 35~40 "jumping zones". These zones, which have been a source of numerous balance and progression issues, will no longer be part of the game.
Major Adjustments on the Way
In their place, adjustments have been made to the equipment, monsters, EXP, and Gold for subsequent level ranges. Equipment stats for level 40 and above have been recalibrated, with both attack and defense stats seeing a decrease. This is complemented by a reduction in monster health and defense. The overall goal, as explained by the developers in their latest balance patch notes, is to provide players with a seamless gameplay experience, free from the challenges previously posed by these zones.
Item drops are also seeing a revamp. The probability of item acquisition has been reduced, but this comes with an increased chance for item drops. This change aims to strike a balance between the early high drop rates and the functionality of rewards related to increased item drop probabilities and dungeon difficulty. In other words, the team aims to have a better balance where players will have a better chance for more coveted awards for completing difficult content.
Gold drops from common monsters have also been adjusted to improve gameplay flow. While the drop rate has been decreased, the amount of Gold obtained from each drop has been increased. This change will address frame rate issues caused by frequent small Gold drops.
The world item acquisition and Gold drop rates are also being revisited. The game's developers have recognized the monotony of players repeatedly farming ACT5, the most efficient dungeon. To address this, adjustments are being made to fields and overall world content, using ACT5 as a benchmark. This will supposedly bring other areas in line with ACT5 so that there are multiple places where farming will be efficient, instead of nerfing ACT5.
Faster Leveling On the Way
Level-related adjustments are another focal point of this update. The range for EXP and drop rate adjustments due to level differences is being relaxed. This change aims to provide players with more hunting spaces and reduce the reliance on repeatedly running dungeons for leveling up.
For players in the level 70~80 segment, the EXP gain requirement is being adjusted to allow for faster growth. This change, coupled with the relaxation of level adjustment ranges, promises a smoother leveling experience for players.
Equipment options are also undergoing changes. Options related to attack, defense, and support, which were previously limited by armor type, will now be more diverse. This change introduces more variety in equipment characteristics, allowing players to find gear that better suits their individual playstyle.
Lastly, the game is set to receive several UI/UX improvements. Players can expect real-time displays of ancient and field bosses on the world map, a new trash bin feature for discarding items, and in-game mail notifications for homepage notices.
The upcoming balance patch for Mad World: Age of Darkness promises an abundance of welcome changes aimed at enhancing the player experience. With the game available to play for free on Mad World’s official website, it may be a perfect time for new players to jump in once the latest patch goes live. Mad World is also working on a Steam client, but as of this time, there is no ETA on when Jandisoft plans to launch, but we’ll keep you apprised of any release schedule in the future.
