LotRO's Upcoming Patch Aims to Improve Delving Performance

A small patch is on the way this week that might be the first deployment of a performance patch that could solve (or at least help) the lag The Lord of the Rings Online faces.

Earlier this month, executive producer Rob Ciccolini excitedly took to Twitter to state that the Standing Stone Games team had identified one of the sources of lag that the MMO faces. This was touched on again during a Q&A a few weeks back (also where the LotRO team announced its upcoming Mariner class), stating that there would be a patch coming this month to squash some of the lag issues, especially as it pertained to Delving performance.

Well, it seems that part of the lag fix is in for tomorrow, as Update 36.0.2's release notes were, erm, released today. As part of the patch, players should expect an increase in performance to Delvings and instances themselves.

It's an exciting start to fixes that many players, myself included, have been hoping for over the years. Lag is a constant source of contention with this MMO, especially plaguing places like the impressive recreation of Minas Tirith (which is hosting the Midsummer event) or anytime you ride your Warsteed.

Also coming with Update 36.0.2's patch tomorrow are some minor fixes like making sure the healers in the new Gondor Renewed area actually sell healing draughts, salves and more, as well as some minor changes to the Warden class.

You can check out the full patch notes here. And to learn more about the Mariner class, be sure to check out the Q&A with Severlin in our coverage here. Also, The Lord of the Rings Online is teaming up with Magic the Gathering Online to cross-promote the new Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth set in the MMO. Players who use the LOTROMTGO2023 code in the LotRO store will get some goodies, including a property guard in the form of Samwise Gamgee himself.
