In a recent interview with Destructoid, the LOTRO team discusses how they have “20 years” worth of content.
Discussion covered a range of topics, with one such question focusing on the reason behind LOTRO’s longevity. Executive Producer Rob Ciccoloini explained,
“Our players. You see at the time, we were breaking new ground with the free-to-play model, and we really didn't have anything to go off of. We ran the risk of going too far with it, but we have to constantly balance between being risk-averse and going all out. Our players help guide us in that respect and I think it's worked out pretty well so far."
Ciccolini also explained how their version of WoW Classic, dubbed Legendary Servers, have been successful due to the hardcore players. Conversation also covered off potential future content, with design team member Penck explaining,
“We'd love to go to Harad (the desert region in the southern part of Middle-earth), Umbar, Núrn, Rhûn, you name it.”
Design team member Dwyer added,
“We have a good 20 years here."
This should no doubt excite fans of LOTRO. You can check out the full article here.
