LotRO Is Testing Its European Mordor Server Today, Though No Concrete Launch Date Just Yet

The Lord of the Rings Online is testing its Mordor legendary server today, stressing the server ahead of its eventual launch.

The new Legendary server, which is one of two coming to the long-running MMO, is hosted in the European data center and is now open for testing. The Angmar and Mordor Legendary servers are a bit different from previous Legendary worlds in that they offer a unique world event for players to tackle, the Veil of the Nine event will see Ringwraiths spawn periodically throughout the world for players to tackle. However, Ringwraiths aren't a walk in the park and, as executive producer Rob Ciccolini said on a recent Cord of the Rings broadcast, these world bosses will basically require upwards of 50 people to fight - and even then, it won't be easy.

As such, twelve Rings of Power will spawn in the world, and if a Ringbearer shows up to the fight, it will make fending off the Nazgul so much easier.

Today's test will see multiple Ringwraiths spawn throughout the testing period, as well as a Hide and Seek game with developer Scenario to add to the testing fun. Level caps in the server will be set to 50, and while you can't copy your existing Lord of the Rings Online toon over, you can level one using the NPCs in the Eyes and Guard Tavern.

As for when Angmar and Mordor will be released, that is still somewhat up in the air, though community manager Jerry "Cordovan" Snook did say that the team is targeting either a July 31st or August 1st release. Update 41 is also slated to go live tentatively on July 31st, so it'll be a busy day for both LotRO players and developers if they are able to pull it all off.
