According to a recent report, Bossa Studios has decided to layoff about 1/3 of their staff, as the team continues to focus on PvE Survival title Lost Skies.

If you’re hearing the name Bossa Studios and wonder why the game sounds so familiar, the team was responsible for persistent sandbox MMO Worlds Adrift which ended up shutting down July 26th of 2019. The game was rife with issues but the team decided that there was no “commercial viability” to the game and couldn’t justify fixing it. Instead, the team at Bossa Studios has pushed on with a new game, built on the premise of Worlds Adrift called Lost Skies.

Bossa Studios confirmed the layoffs and stated that staff is now down to 40 members, with their primary focus on pushing Lost Skies to the finish line. The loss of staff happened at the end of 2023, but the industry has been reeling from a number of high profile layoffs over the course of last year that analysts predict will continue into 2024 as well.

As for Lost Skies itself, the Worlds Adrift inspired survival title may still make its way to launch one day, however the team at Bossa Studios has yet to confirm any launch dates. There have been consistent monthly updates throughout the past year, and it appears significant work has been done, but the layoffs could potentially slow production.

Lost Skies will be a co-operative survival game where up to 6 players will take to the clouds and explore the wild floating islands once inhabited by ancient civilizations. You’ll build airships, fly on gliders, battle storms and craft plenty of items as your adventure unfolds. Players will be in charge of hosting their own games, and will be able to add to the fun with the creation of their own islands. While we don’t know exactly how the layoffs will change the games trajectory, we will continue to keep an eye on Lost Skies for news on when the game may launch.
