Life is Feudal: MMO has relaunched under a new owner, Long Tale Games. Launching as a “hardcore” subscription game, the company plans to continue expanding on the IP.

There were some hints that the game would be relaunching this year, but now it is confirmed and Life is Feudal is back. The game was originally developed by BitBox Ltd, released back in 2016, then shut down in 2021 after going free to play two years earlier. If you’re interested in this new relaunch, the subscription is $19.99 to join the playtest (via Xsolla-owned Babka). For that you get a “hardcore” version with “all paid boosters, the premium shop and other pay-to-win features” turned off.

The game is a sandbox, with survival elements as a Medieval simulator MMO. Inspired by the terrains of Northern Europe, in a feudal age, you'll have to scavenge for materials and build shelter, in order to survive, progress, and learn how to do things like build and terraform.

This new iteration of the game will be different, according to Long Tale Games. “Built on the foundation of the original release, LiF: MMO will be uniquely developed in cooperation with players for bug fixes and major product decisions based on community feedback,” reads part of the new description on the game’s new homepage.

This will only be the first of the planned releases, as the team announced in a press release confirming the return of the MMO. This subscription version is the “first variant” of the IP that they are planning to release and develop, and they have “plans to dedicate special care to the support and development of separate versions and variants of the game, including those proposed or developed by the community”. Long Tale says they will hold an AMA to collect Community questions and feedback on the relaunch and the future of the IP.

The Malaysian-based publisher seems to specialize in bringing back older IP and classic games in order to put a new spin on them. The company also works with web3 and crypto companies and is planning more projects like this to come. Under the official Twitter account, the company’s bio says “We find old and new long-story games and give it a new sauce!”.
