Legions & Legends is the upcoming debut title from developer Azra Games. The title is described as a “collectibles and combat RPG” built on the blockchain and will be playable sometime this year.

Azra Games is a new studio that was started this year with over 30 veteran developers on board and an initial $15m seed funding round. Described as “both core gamers and crypto-natives”, the company is led by CEO and co-founder Mark Otero, who is known for work on games like Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. Others aboard Legions & Legends include Game Director Michael Noriega, who worked with Otero at EA Capital Games, and  VP of Development Neel Upadhye, who has more than a decade of experience crafting lore for games like Star Wars: The Old Republic, Apex Legends, and Battlefield 2042

The game is inspired by many sources, including Dungeons & Dragons lore, Warhammer 40K for lore and collectibles, and the feeling of playing with friends. Otero, says that they’re trying to recreate that special experience of battling with your toys but with the modern space and tech we have today.

In the release announcing the game, we get to know a little more about the setting and some of the lore awaiting us.

Legions & Legends takes place in an uncharted area of the universe called the Corvus Galaxy where magic and technology collide. As players begin to explore the region, they realize that they are not the first adventurers to attempt to conquer the galaxy, and that they’ve uncovered a series of mysteries around a massive war. More details about the narrative and battle experience will be revealed in the coming months.”

Since this is a blockchain game, there will be more details on how that will work later, but this summer there will be a first NFT collection released, minted on Ethereum. Purchasers will be able to use them to generate resources in Legions & Legends.

For more on the game and Azra Games, see this official post by Mark Otero, and the official Legions & Legends site.
