Last Oasis Season 6 is actually here. After announcing changes in May and that Season 6 would be happening after a long period of silence, the Donkey Crew team has opened up the beta test.
The announcement that there would be a beta branch was made a little while ago, after the team’s announcements in the spring after many months of silence that they’d be releasing a modkit and later, moving forward with Season 6 after a ton of overhauls. The introduction of Season 5 came with a ton of negative feedback, and it was a game changer in terms of the blowback and the decision by the team to say they would fix things, followed by a lot of quiet in between these last few updates.
Well, the beta has now arrived. The massive overhauls also mean a return to the PvP roots of Last Oasis. It's not just PVP-centered, everything has been rebalanced and there are no more PVE tiles. Territory control is even more important and it's completed in a different way.
The decision to return to a core PVP game and streamlining the world to be more dynamic and unpredictable in order to keep things interesting and competitive, means they've overhauled raiding, from wall health to weapon damage, ammo types, and more changes. The goal is frequent and spontaneous PVP. There’s still cover and strategic options and safer spots to catch your breath, but the world is dangerous and if you are entering it, you're going to get into scraps.
A signature feature, Walkers also get some overhauls after the widely panned changes back in Season 5. Here, they're still trying to combat exploitation with some limits on crews and overall force. We should help with the issues but also add other layers of strategy.
Progression has also been overhauled and as you level up your character you'll unlock various new technologies. Maps are different too, as everyone will be rotated regularly to the same maps throughout the eight-week season. Instead of new maps being added, each map will change in a linear way over the course of the season.
Donkey Crew shared directions and a password for how to join the beta test over on Steam in a message to the community via Discord.
