Last Oasis now has the modkit that developer Donkey Crew promised would be on the way in a post last fall. That post came after a year of silence, but the latest work and release also came with an update on a Season 6 to come.

Things have been pretty quiet on the Last Oasis front since the release of Season 5 was poorly received back in 2022. Then, with promises to fix things that were followed by silence, last September, the team announced that there would be a robust modkit on the way. Finally, that modkit is here, and that will impact the future of the game itself.

The new modkit offers tools for extensive customization, including entire custom gameplay experiences. There are resources included in the kit to play around with and tailor, as well as an included editor to enable local testing of any changes before you push them live. There is documentation to get you started, and the team has also opened up new support channels to back up the modkit’s release.

So, if you have ever wanted aspects of Last Oasis to be different, now you can make that happen. You can access the modkit itself by heading to the Epic Games Store. Creating modded servers will be done on a new branch, SDKTest, and sharing your mod creations is possible on Steam Workshop.

As for Season 6,  the team has been working on it behind the scenes and in very closed testing. The modkit  offers a few features and possibilities that are from the Season 6 work. It's early but now that the modkit is out, Donkey Crew has centered on a new focus: “We believe the official servers have to provide a unique experience that cannot be replicated on a private server and we believe that role is emergent PVP in a large scale world”.

This will also mean balance challenges, including between big and small clans, safety measures, and more. The team is looking at periodic wipes too, to keep things ever-fresh.
