Last Epoch Delays Season 2 Launch, Likely Due To Path of Exile 2's Planned Patch

Indie ARPG Last Epoch has had to stand toe-to-toe with a wave of stellar other ARPGs, but sometimes, it seems they know when they need to adjust. Last Epoch’s Season 2 drop has been delayed from its original date until April 17, due to “our friends in the ARPG space” choosing a release date too close to the original of April 2.

The most obvious culprit here, while they don’t explicitly say it, is Path of Exile 2, which is releasing its early access 0.2.0 patch on April 4, only two days after the original Last Epoch Season 2 date.

“We’ve recently learned that our friends in the ARPG space have chosen a release date just a couple days after ours which would divide the player base and hinder the success of our Season 2 launch,” the official forum post reads. “Last Epoch is still a smaller studio in this space that looks towards each of its launches as a way to continue to sustain the studio financially and work on the things we are most passionate about.”

In short, it sounds like the Last Epoch team is acting with caution towards its playerbase, as Season 2 is a big update for the game that aims to rekindle interest, as many live service games are wont to do. It brings a new Faction, “massive endgame updates,” a ton of major quality-of-life updates, and more.

Meanwhile, it feels like Grinding Gear Games has been fighting for its life to get its own content out, to the point where it delayed its next Path of Exile 1 season and apologized for the side-by-side games’ delays

Regardless, it seems like both games have big things coming—so ARPG players will be eating good in the month of April.
