When it comes to SEED, Klang Games’ “MMO Simulation” title, there’s still much that remains to be seen to fully be understood. The good news for development is that the company has just closed a new funding round of $41 million in Series C funding for continued development and to grow the company.
With funding backed by such investors as Web3 company Animoca Brands, Roosh, and Kingsway Capital, there’s interest in just what SEED is aiming to be. The premise is that there will be a large-scale, persistent world that players will be able to shape, explore, take part in a fully player-driven economy, player-founded governments, and create various parts of the world and contribute to the community. Players will have their own customizable AI-driven virtual human, known as a Seedling. The game is currently in pre-alpha, so it's very early.
Because it's still early, details are still scarce, but there's a lot of emphasis on player-driven worlds and expansions and decisions, as well as creativity. This funding round will be used, according to the company, to grow Klang and double the current staff over the next year from a team of 70 to a company of 150 people centered in a headquarters in Berlin. For SEED, the funding will enable the team to continue building the backend and tech that will power this distinct vision and let the expanding team continue work.

Klang Games is also formally announcing the addition of Isabelle Henriques as new co-CEO and COO. Henriques is a former Studio Director and Lead Producer at EA, with work on series like The Sims and Call of Duty.
The investment from Animoca Brands is significant. According to a release announcing the new investments, “With its extensive experience and over 340 investments in companies focusing on the development of Web3 and the open metaverse, Animoca Brands will provide Klang Games with critical support and networking opportunities”. Blockchain gaming continues to grow, and we’ll see the impact on SEED as development continues and the team gets to phases where they can reveal much more.
