Kanai's Cube Previewed

One of the centerpieces of the forthcoming v2.3 patch for Diablo III is the addition of Kanai's Cube, the successor to Diablo II's Horadric Cube. In a new post on the D3 site, the team shows some of what players will be able to create with Kanai's Cube.

Players will be able to use the cube in a number of ways such as extracting legendary powers from weapons and armor. This allows players to utilize a specific legendary power without having that particular item equipped, though there is a class restriction.

There will be more uses revealed over time.

Of particular note is the fact that Kanai's Cube is a tribute to a former WoW developer and Diablo 3 fan, Kevin Kanai Griffith, who recently passed away from a rare form of cancer.

Tragedy struck in February of 2012 when Kevin was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer known as Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma (ASPS). Kevin kept his spirits high throughout the grueling treatment process and continued to work on Diablo III as much as he was able, pioneering environmental features such as the weather and night/day cycles experienced in Adventure Mode. Though he fought valiantly, we lost our coworker and dear friend on October 17, 2014. His spirit and legacy will always live on in the many games he’s touched with his stunning art, as well as the hearts of every individual who had the honor of knowing him.

We miss you, Kevin. This Cube is for you.
