Kakao Games will publish a new sci-fi MMORPG, Ares: Rise of Guardians, by Korean developer Second Dive. The game has a brief teaser and a confirmed title, and there’s still a lot that is unknown about the game, but Kakao promises they’ll keep revealing more over time.

Based on the trailer, the game will take place in a futuristic sci-fi setting where characters use all kinds of tech and weapons to fight. One of the phrases that flashes by in the trailer says “The day is coming” and another says, “Destroy Dystopia”, perhaps giving a hint at some of what we might expect.

The game was once known as Project Ares, and now, Kakao Games CEO  Jo Gye-Hyun, has confirmed (via GamingonPhone) that the title will be Ares: Rise of Guardians. so now is the time for some wild speculation based on that title and teaser. While we do see two people early on, it’s hard to tell if some of the others are robots or others in heavily mechanized suits. Or perhaps something else entirely. What we can see is everybody is bringing the big weapons to whatever the battle is all about. And with a title invoking Ares, with a dystopian sci-fi setting, it’s probably safe to think that there’s going to be a huge fight on our hands. And who are these “Guardians” and in what way will they rise?

Details are indeed very sparse, though the teaser does say “coming soon”, which we’ll presume means to Korea, and if this is the case, then we should expect more info to be revealed and let us see what shape this new game will take.

With no information as to whether this game will even see a global release, it is early to consider, but with Kakao Games having a major foothold in MMORPG publishing, it’s definitely something to keep an eye on.

You can visit the Ares: Rise of Guardians site (in Korean) to see when there may be more info.
