A new job advertisement on the Amazon Game Studios web site provides some insight into what type of game New World is going to be. The job listing is for a "Player Relations Specialist" for New World who will need to be an expert in the game's mechanics as well as its lore and history. But it is the description of what the vision of New World is that gets our attention though it is, admittedly, not all that much more information than that on the official site.
New World is a massively multiplayer, open-ended sandbox game that allows you to carve your own destiny with other players in a living, hostile, cursed land. How you play, what you do, and whom you work with or against is up to you. Live on your own amidst the supernatural terrors or join with others to build thriving civilizations. In this evolving world that transforms with the changing of the seasons, weather, and time of day, the only limit is your own ambition.
While nothing earth-shatteringly new, it is a great reminder that New World is still out there, still in development and still something we are keenly interested in.
Folks applying for the Los Angeles-based position will need:
- vast experience in the gaming industry
- understanding of the dynamics between developers and players
- to be a "master communicator"
- to provide authentic 2-way communications as "an advocate for the player perspective as well as an evangelist for the game team"
Let's hope that by filling out the Community Management team, AGS is finally preparing to provide more information about the game.
