The Repopulation site has been updated with the latest developer notes. This time, the team centered around the first Alpha 4 update that is expected to hit live service later today.
The letter addresses the concern that many players and fans have voiced that the graphics are somehow subpar. The team indicates that The Repopulation is first being built for its features and systems and that graphics updates and overhauls will come at a later point.
Where many titles focus on visuals first, gameplay second, we're the opposite. Our budget has grown steadily over time, but is still tiny in comparison to AAA studios. But the scope of this game is larger. At this stage of alpha, many things are still a work in progress. This build improves a number of areas graphically but you can expect similar refinements to continue from now until launch.
The UI has also undergone a very specific tweak in that new players will be added to a "newbie" chat channel that should reduce the amount of new player questions that veteran players are seeing in General Chat. On reaching fifty skill points, players will be added to General Chat.
Combat has seen a few minor improvements for this patch with a major overhaul incoming in the next update, hopefully that will deploy more quickly than the current one.
The letter also touches on:
- Skill gain rates
- The economy
- Pets
- Entertainers
