In a post on the company's LinkedIn page, Iron Galaxy Studios announced layoffs, emphasizing that the  difficult times in game development are still painful and this adjustment has hit iron Galaxy as well, despite a number of efforts and” sacrifices” that they've made to keep their teams together so far.  “Today, we’re making the unfortunate announcement that we have run out of room to maneuver amidst this slow recovery.”

The layoffs affect 66 people in both development and support staff. They’re calling the move a last resort to “enable our long-term survival” and is something they are making clear they don't take lightly.

Iron Galaxy Studios was founded in 2008 and is known for original games like Rumbleverse, as well as support work and work on ports for a wide range of titles, like Skyrim, Conan Exiles on Xbox, and most recently, The Last of Us Part II Remastered on PC. Even if you didn't play their original games,  it's likely you've played something they worked on.

Since they are a support studio on various projects, they're also emphasizing that they still have capacity to serve their development partners and to work on projects, even with these painful cuts.

It's early February and we have seen a number of studios laying off employees and some closing even this early in the year. Many people probably hoped that a new year could bring some steps towards a greater recovery, but  things haven't quite turned around yet.

Still, Iron Galaxy aims to support laid off employees as they try to find new roles and “This year, we’ll continue to explore new ways to support an industry we love and keep working towards its ongoing recovery”.
