Eurogamer is reporting that DayZ creator Dean Hall's ambitious space survival title, Ion, has been cancelled. The game was first announced during E3 2015 with a great deal of fanfare but not much has been revealed since...until now.

Ion was to be a game in production through Hall's RocketWerkz and Improbable. In the intervening years since its announcement, however, both companies have announced other projects without ever mentioning Ion again.

Improbable, when asked about Ion and the partnership with Rocketwerkz said

We can definitely say that Improbable is not currently working on Ion. However, we have not previously commented on and cannot now comment on RocketWerkz' current or future plans. We are focussed on making SpatialOS available to developers, and supporting developers such as Bossa Studios and our SpatialOS Games Innovation Program partners as they make games on our platform. We currently have no plans to develop or release a game ourself.

Dean Hall is quoted as saying:

We're not actively working on Ion, no. I am not involved in that, no. Nor is RocketWerkz studio in New Zealand.

Adios, Ion.
