inXile Entertainment has received an investment infusion from Japanese publisher Gumi to the tune of $4.5M. The funds are to assist with the development of an "open world survival RPG VR" game something along the lines of ARK: Survival Evolved. The game will be based on one of inXile's existing worlds such as Torment: Tides of Numenera, Wasteland or The Bard's Tale.

CEO and Founder Brian Fargo told VentureBeat:

I’ve been fascinated by the social dynamics of open world games, and I’ve wanted to bring our storytelling techniques into this genre and push on the intensity of that experience. It doesn’t take much imagination to understand how powerful this genre will be in VR.

Gumi's VR division will be working closely with inXile, whose expertise in Western-themed RPGs is nearly unmatched. Gumi's publishing division will be instrumental in bringing the game to the Asian audience, something, according to Fargo, "you need a local partner for."
