Indie adventure-RPG Tails of Iron is getting a new expansion, Bright Fir Forest, that follows up on the critically acclaimed RPG's story. The expansion, which adds thirteen new quests, launches today for free.

Tails of Iron first launched back in July 2021, bringing its brutal take on the souls-like genre as players take the role of the anthropomorphic heir to the Rat Throne, Redgi. Despite being a side-scrolling RPG, combat has that souls-like feel, where you'll need to study and react to attacks, learning when to parry, bash, and strike your way to victory.

Bright Fir Forest is the next free expansion to the RPG, following up the Bloody Whiskers expansion, which dropped in November 2021.

Via this morning's press release:

"Set after the climactic events of the base campaign, ‘Bright Fir Forest’ sees Rat King Redgi invited by the Squirrels to celebrate the Festival of Leaf Fall… while a new foul and revenge-seeking adversary stands to ruin the celebrations."

Bright Fir Forest brings thirteen new quests to the fray, with four story and nine side quests to conquer, which brings Redgi to the ancestral home of the Squirrels, Castle Drey. Bright Fir Forest also brings new customizations to the Crimson Keep, new weapons and armor to use, and more.

Tails of Iron is available on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.

In this "whenever we feel like it" column, we'll be talking about, reviewing, and previewing all the best and brightest RPGs coming to the market, even if they're not "MMO" in nature.
