In a report from Bloomberg, the next Amazon CEO, Andy Jassy, reaffirmed his support for Amazon Game Studios. Despite no consistent measure of success for the studio as of yet, Jassy believes it’s only a matter of time, and that AGS will become successful, even if it takes “years”.
The quote expressing the positive outlook for Amazon and gaming came just one day prior to being named the next CEO, succeeding Jeff Bezos. The news of top management support for AGS comes on the heels of another report by Bloomberg that indicated Amazon Game Studios enabled a “bro-culture” and had many mismanagement issues which partially led to several of their announced games being shuttered before releasing.
“Some businesses take off in the first year, and others take many years. Though we haven’t consistently succeeded yet in AGS, I believe we will if we hang in there.”
- Andy Jassy, Head of Amazons Cloud Division (And Future Amazon CEO)
Amazon Game Studios is working toward releasing their highly anticipated MMO New World that has several beta sessions and a suspected release date of 2021. In light of another large company, Google, abandoning their game development division of Stadia, we hope to see Amazon follow through with many worthwhile projects in the future.
