While Baldur’s Gate 3 was on multiple platforms by the end of 2023, none of those were cross-play compatible—but that’s going to change with Patch 8 coming in the new year, it seems. Now, with that implementation on the horizon, Larian is asking players across all platforms to sign up for the Patch 8 stress test to give it a whirl.

Players on most platforms can join: Steam PC, Xbox, and Playstation players will be able to join. (Sadly, GOG and Mac users aren’t part of this test.) The public test build looks to test not only the cross-play, but also the usual slew of gameplay changes and fixes. After all, with mods having officially launched this year, anything can happen, especially with multiple platforms in play.

Players on Playstation, PC and Xbox can sign up for possible consideration by signing into their Larian account and signing up via the official form. Xbox players will need the extra step of downloading the Xbox Insider Hub App in order to get into the playtest. Not all players will be able to join, and invites will go out in waves; they’re also, of course, asking for players to give feedback on Discord and through approved channels to help with the playtesting aspect.

They also encourage playing with friends on different platforms by getting them to sign up—that’s the whole fun of cross-play, no? (And if you or your friends don’t have it, it’s a modest 20% off on Steam right now, at $47.99. Our team is confident it aged very well already.)
